Alternative Machine Sizing Modes

I’ll keep my request terse; currently, the placeable buildings’ visual sizes are slightly different from each other in ways that aligning things onto the already implemented grid is pretty unaligned, which can tug at people’s OCD (or at least mine).

I’d like to request two new options for the users to choose from besides the current way:

  • all building types have the same visual size, so everything can align on the grid perfectly,

  • building sizes integrally scaled to how they are in-game relatively to each other (rounded to nearest “full foundation” size) so the modeler could actually be used as a space-designing tool as well as just an abstract throughput/energy tool.

Swapping between these can do whatever to the already existing objects’ positioning/alignment, i don’t have strong feelings about that.

As an addendum, the sizes of the encompassing rectangles of the various buildings should probably be something like this (rough estimates based on the wiki’s dimension data, it can be off with certain buildables…):

  • Resource Well Pressurizer Extractor: 1×1 (you hook up the small ones, not the big one)

  • Constructor: 1×1 (yes, the “arms” technically go beyond 1 foundation, but it’s visual)

  • Smelter: 1×1

  • Packager: 1×1

  • Biomass Burner: 1×1

  • Assembler: 2×2 (can’t place them flush with each other if it’s 1×1)

  • Foundry: 2×2 (can’t place them flush with each other if it’s 1×1)

  • Sink: 2×2

  • Converter: 2×2

  • Manufacturer: 3×3

  • Blender: 3×3

  • Water Extractor: 3×3

  • Fuel-powered Generator: 3×3

  • Alien Power Augmenter: 4×4

  • Nuclear Power Plant: 6×6

The following ones are all wider than taller.

  • Miner: 2×1

  • Oil Extractor: 2×1

  • Refinery: 3×2

  • Coal-powered Generator: 4×2

  • Particle Accelerator: 6×4

  • Quantum Encoder: 8x3

No comment on the rotational aspects of these, nor the splitter/merger/splurger sizes.
